Review and Giveaway!: Grobag Swaddling Wrap

Swaddling is a must for most babies and there are a lot of products out there that focus on this. Both of my kids have needed and liked to be swaddled. I received a Grobag Swaddling Wrap to try for baby Adam and have taken it for some test runs. In the US, this can be purchased from Keen Distribution.

The design and theory behind this stretchy wrap-around swaddling wrap is much like others I’ve seen. A nice difference is that, as advertised, it does not have Velcro, zippers, snaps etc. The parent is in charge of how and where the wrap is stretched and how tightly. It is a nice light weight and 100% breathable cotton. You can select from four different patterns of grobag.

While the stretch in the fabric is good for getting the wrap tightly around baby, it does not hold tightly enough for my mover-and-groover. In not much time, Adam popped a leg out of the bottom portion and one arm out of the top. At which point he was no longer relaxed, but worked up! I have to qualify this with my deep belief that my babies move more than the average baby. I have since tried wrapping him more tightly and my little burrito-wrapped baby did calm down quite a bit- ahhh, the sound of almost quiet!

I do like the light weight of the fabric, excellent, in my opinion- especially in the summer. In a Minnesota winter, though, this would not be enough to keep baby warm. Perhaps you Southerners would get better winter use of this product as well as year round.

Formal Review, each of four stars:

Function: ** for me- your use could be much more effective if your babies are less active than my own; then this rating would jump right up. The stretchy fabric gives Mom control over the extent and tightness of the swaddle, but also can allow baby to get out of that swaddle. No extra closures that are scratchy or just useless- quite a nice absence! 100% cotton- absolutely priceless for me, I am very concerned about sensitive skin and breathability. You would get much greater use than I if you live in a warmer climate!

Style: *** and a half. Quite similar to other swaddle blankets in its layout. There are four patterns, so you can definitely find one that suits your taste. Again, 100% cotton and absence of extraneous closures- excellent.

Cost: ** and a half. A swaddling wrap costs $21.99. This is quite similar to the price of a Halo wrap and double the price of a Kiddopotamus wrap. Definitely in the right price range for the hopes of a good night's sleep, or even just a good nap!

Overall Rating: ** and a half- and better if your baby moves less than mine or if you live in a warmer climate. The price is reasonable to give this product a shot.

Want to win a Grobag Swaddling Wrap for your child? Visit the Keen Distribution website and take a look at the entire Grobag safe sleep system line which includes the swaddling wrap, the Grobag baby sleeping bag and the Grobag Egg. Choose your favorite component and tell us why you'd be most interested in trying it out. All entries must be received by midnight on Wednesday, August 27th. Please only one entry per household and you must be 18 or older to win. We will choose one winner using random.org. Feel free to leave your email so that we can contact you when you win, but also know that we will be submitting winner info to Prizey Winners. The winner will receive a Grobag Swaddling Wrap. Thanks for reading and good luck!

keeping the baby warm and comfy all night makes me smile, and knowing the parents get more sleep does too!
I would love this for some soon to be parents I know.

I really would like the grobag egg. I think that would be so great to look at the color and determine the temperature.

thanks for the chance.

My son needed to be swaddled, I thought he'd go off to college that way!

I would be most interested in the swaddling wrap for my baby that is due the beginning of March. I have never had a real swaddling blanket before and instead just used a receiving blanket, but they were never big enough to swaddle my kids for very long.

I really like the egg. At first I thought it was a little over the top but truly how many times do you not realize what the temp in the room is just because you feel fine?

And I like that it doubles as a soft night lite.

I always love to swaddle my children and they really seemed happy to be swaddled. I love that the swaddling wrap stays on them. My children would always move and the blanket would undo. I like that these do not have the velcro that you see on others. It seems like it would be scratchy. I would love to win this to use with our baby boy due in December. Thanks for the chance. ecghick@yahoo.com

Actually, I like all three of the items because they each have their own positive function. The "GroBaby
Sleeping Bag" helps the child not kick the covers off and I adore the
"Swaddling Wrap" because babies do like to be snuggled up. Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Many thanks.....Cindi

I like the shape of the wrap. It took us two kids to finally manage swaddling correctly with a receiving blanket, but this wrap would made swaddling #3 a breeze!

AmandaSue said...

I love the fact that the Swaddling Wrap is lightweight and its shaped. And its neat that it can be used as an underarm wrap when the baby gets a bit bigger.

I think the Grobag Baby Sleeping Bags are such a great idea. My kids were so active while they slept that they'd kick the covers off and constantly wake up from being cold. It's also a comfort not having to worry over the hazards of loose bedding. Great product.

The Grobag Egg might seem like a waste to some people, but i think it would be a great addition to any nursary. It's so hard for us to tell the exact room temperature just based on walking in the nursary, and when you're dead tired, it might be the last thing you're thinking of. The glowing egg would be an easy reminder, and anything that helps to keep SIDS down to a minimum gets my vote!

I love the fact that the swaddler is preshaped to help remind you how to do it and that it grows with child from over arms to under the arms. My husband and I are convinced that swaddling and shushing is the key to a calmer baby at times of need.

The swaddler is great. Thanks for the giveaway. I love the fact that it is shaped in a way to remind you how to do it properly. So many new monthers do not really know since no one bothers to show them anymore.

I'd love to try the grobaby sleeping bag. As they say, you get rid of the loose crib bedding and the baby stays warm and comfy all night (hopefully, sleeping a good 7 hours!). Happy baby means happy parents. Thanks! laurachilton {at} hotmail {dot} com

The Swaddling Wrap looks great to me because it lacks fasteners. We used a swaddler with our baby that was designed to close with velcro, and when the velcro inexplicably started failing the swaddler was useless. I'd love to send this to a new baby I know; thanks for the drawing!

I like that the swaddling wrap is shaped to fit babies. It isn't an odd shaped rectangle with leftover bits your not sure where to tuck them.

I think the Gro Baby sleeping bag would be great. Who ever designed it actually "knows" how a real baby is shaped!

These are all great products, but I think the Grobag Sleeping Bags are my favorite and would be usable for awhile longer than the swaddling wraps.

LN said...

I like the way the wrap adjusts to the size of the baby and the tightness you want. My husband loves wrapping up our newborns, and regular blankets never seem to do the trick. It's lighter weight than most of our sleeping bags so my baby will be less likely to kick herself awake when it's hot outside now and we can't yet use the bags :)

I've seen the Grobag Egg a few times but would really love to try it because it would take all the worry out of wondering if the nursery is too warm or too cold. My daughter is due in December so I know that I'll be constantly checking to make sure she's warm enough but not too warm...

Thanks for the giveaway!

The grobag® egg™ glows yellow if the room temperature is within recommended guidelines (61-67°F). If the room temperature is outside this range, the grobag® egg™ acts as a visual reminder for you to take action to cool or heat the room, or to adjust the baby’s bedding or clothing.

Hmmm, of all the components to the safe sleep system I'm most intrigued by the Egg -- mainly because I've seen other sleep sacks/bags (though none with the TOG ratings -that's a cool feature!) and other swaddle blankets, but that therm is such a great idea! I'd love to try it out.

That being said, I'd love to win this swaddling wrap for baby-on-the-way in January - and her nursery is jungle animals, so it would even match!

I didn't realize that room temperature and SIDS are related. 61-67 degrees seems cool and we never have the room that cool. I'd like this as a reminder!

The baby sleeping bag looks so nice. I need to get one of these for the winter, since we live in an old house and it gets a little chilly. Since we can't put a blanket in the crib due to safety and the pointlessness of a blanket that will just be kicked off, this would be a big help. I like that it comes in woven fabric as well as jersey; it would be less likely to get bunched up around the baby's legs.
