Review and Giveaway! between me and you journals

Holiday Shopping. Is there anything I hate more? OK, maybe hate is a strong word because I really do enjoy the giving of gifts, but finding the right gift for my parents is difficult, and for my husband's parents, who want for NOTHING, is absolutely impossible. When I first learned about the between me and you journals from Sand Dune Publishing, my first thought was about Christmas gifts. After getting to experience the journals for myself, I realized that these journals are much more than just a way to relieve my shopping woes. These journals will become treasured keepsakes for my family for years and years to come.

The concept behind the journals is quite simple. Each journal is a hard-bound spiral notebook filled with 35-45 questions, divided into different sections. For example, the Mom journal has 6 sections including:

  • When You Were a Kid

  • Your Youth

  • My Dad

  • What About Me

  • You, Now

  • Other Stuff

Each page has plenty of room for your mom to write in her thoughts and feelings, as well as room to attach pictures or other small "scrapbooky" memorabelia. The back of the book has blank pages that can be used for extra thoughts or for pictures as well. If your family is anything like mine, we are not particularly open about discussing ourselves. These journals will be a great insight into who my very private parents are without being too cheesy OR prying. I'm also looking forward to filling out a copy of the Mom journal for each of my children. While I hope to have a much more open relationship with my children, there are some questions included in these journals that I might never have thought to share with my kids. Some of the questions about them I won't be able to finish until they're older, but questions about my pregnancies as well as their birthdays are obviously fresh in my mind. The journals will be a good present for their graduation from high school or college some day in the future.

I will be purchasing multiple copies of these journals for gifts this Christmas. My grandma will be getting one from me, as will my mom. My children will be giving one to all of their grandparents as well. Obviously, the journals aren't meant to be filled out all in one sitting, but over time, there's no deadline. The best part of giving this gift will be having it gifted right back in return full of handwritten memories I know my children and I will cherish forever!

You can purchase the journals directly from the Sand Dune Publishing website for $14.95 + shipping.

Wow, how cool. I would pick the honey one for my Brother and his gf of 7 years, he is 23 and going to Iraq in about 8 months, and I think they would do very well with it.
Then I would get the Mom one for my mom. We have had our up’s and down’s but I think it would be good, and she is dealing with her mom getting older and more fragile right now, so I think it would be a great bonding too. thanks so much for the introduction to these!

Well, I would love the grandpa and grandma ones, but I have actually given my mom a really pretty one with this purpose before and she has yet to fill out one word in it. So I like the idea of the reunion one (for extended family memories) and the mom one, so I can fill it out for all of my children.

Suzie G. said...

What I'd really like is two of the Honey journals so me and my fiance could fill them out for each other. I also like the family reunion book because it would be perfect to pass around to my fiance's family for him. He has a very large extended family.

Trina said...

seriouly, them journals rock! I have never seen anything like that! I would pick the daughter and the son journals. I would pick the daughter one for our 11 year old daughter, I would choose the son one to give to our teenage foster son that we are adopting. I think this would show him how very much we love him and how very much we are glad to have him in our life.

very cool give away!
