Nadia was introduced to Fancy Nancy earlier this summer by her soon-to-be-Aunt Janea. I've seen Fancy Nancy on bookshelves before, but never picked it up because I was afraid of what I might find inside. We don't discourage Nadia in any way, but are trying not to raise her to aspire her only to be a princess. I very wrongly judged Fancy Nancy by it's cove
r. While yes, Nancy does like to be fancy, she also likes to use fancy words. If Nadia were a little more fancy, she would be Nancy. She loves words, the bigger the better, and is constantly amazing (and amusing) us with the words she knows and her ability to use them correctly. When the opportunity to review the New Fancy Nancy Posh Bedroom Game by Briarpatch arose, I knew that we'd be perfect candidates to try it out!

Review and Giveaway! Fancy Nancy Posh Bedroom Game by Briarpatch
As with many of the Briarpatch games that we've reviewed lately, the recommended age for playing the game is older than our Nadia's 3 years. I always feel comfortable reviewing the games because I know that if we waited until everyone in our house was old enough to play the game, there would then be someone too old to be interested in it. If you're like me, you want games that can be played with all of your children, if possible, even if they're not quite old enough. When we play the games, we try to come up with ways to adapt the game to make it fun for our almost 3 year old. The Fancy Nancy Posh Bedroom Game is another example of how Briarpatch creates games that while they would be best played with an older child, are also easily modified to play with younger kids, too, and it's the number one reason why I'm such a huge fan of Briarpatch!
The Fancy Nancy Posh Bedroom game comes with 4 game boards, a die and 3 sets of cards. The object of the game is to be the first person to completely "accessorize" Fancy Nancy's bedroom. When we played it with Nadia, we left out the "Oops" cards and played without them. For older kids, the Oops cards allow them to stop the play of their opponents. Nadia's not quite ready for the strategy that this involves, so we skipped it for now. One other small obstacle is that your child has to be able to hold cards in her hand to play. We overcame this by resorting to the high-tech tool my parents always had us use when we played cards: an overturned ice cube tray! Nadia's favorite part of the game was shouting "Accessories!" every time she played her pink card, and trying to roll the fuchsia color on the die. If your daughter is familiar with Fancy Nancy, she will LOVE this game. Even if you've never heard of her before, I can't imagine a girl who won't like to accessorize along with Fancy Nancy!
Some game stats:
Age: 5+, although we again were able to modify the play to include our almost 3-year old.
Number of Players: 2-4
Skills: No real reading required. The cards each have writing on them, but after going over them a couple of times, Nadia knew what the cards what each card said. Your child should also be able to hold cards in their hand, although I recommend using an ice cube tray to hold the cards for those who can't.
Price: $20.99 directly from Briarpatch, but you can get it at Amazon for $13.99 which is even better!
