Sunday Conversation: How to Get Back on Track? and Kiddies Voting

I am convinced that my darling 27 months old Anastasia could be potty-trained. Why do I say this?, you ask, that’s pretty young, she’s got time still…. Well, before Adam was born, she used the potty all the time, and we rarely changed a dirty diaper. Then Adam arrived and the whole “using the potty thing” got waylaid. Anastasia has just stopped doing it regularly and we are back to near-full-time diaper changing.

This isn’t because I didn’t try to get her to use it while I was on maternity leave; I did. She just seemed to stop. We’ve continued the “M&M approach”. She now uses the potty only when she wants an M&M. We’ve bought nice underwear which she wants to wear but obviously not enough- we promised she could wear them as soon as she uses the potty all the time and – nothing. We praise, party, and get all excited when it happens, then nothing again.

Now we have all the training pants to try too, but I am hesitant because I don’t want to set things back further.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get the potty train back on track? Anyone have a similar situation? What worked for you?

As an aside, I am so excited for November 4. I can’t wait to vote (no early voting here in MN aside from absentee ballots). Not only am I excited to vote, but I am excited to take Anastasia with me. I know she is only two, but I feel it is such an important civic responsibility that I want her to be a part of it as far back as she will be able to remember. Anyone else taking their kid(dies) to vote with them?

I have no real potty training advice. We told Nadia she couldn't go to school until she was potty-trained. She waited until literally the last week before school started and then that was it! Oh, we did use a little high-end bribery, but that was phased out pretty quickly. I say go with the flow. It will happen!
