Review and Giveaway!: Bamboo baby blankets from Shi Shu Style

I've had the luxury of experiencing the oh-so-soft baby blankets from Shi Shu Style, and they are divine. I've heard of bamboo clothing and blankets, but was always a little skeptical of how soft they could really be. I don't really know why I had this misconception, but it was there. Now, I'm a believer. This is really one of the softest baby blankets we own, and if your house is like mine, you own many!

Click on Read More to find out more about these luxurious blankets.
Why a blanket made from Bamboo? First, for those of you who are trying to wrap your
head around Bamboo as a textile, basically, it's a fabric made from the pulp of bamboo grass. It's great for making baby blankets because it's light, strong, smooth and naturally antibacterial. It's a fabric that breathes which makes it cool in the summer, but also warm in the winter. The blankets from Shi Shu Style are made from a combination of 60% Cotton and 40% Bamboo with a sateen trim made from 100% Bamboo. None of the fibers used in a Shi Shu Style fabric are chemically treated which makes them extra safe for sensitive baby skin, and they are all hand-woven which gives each blanket it's own unique feel.

I have my Isaac's blanket draped on my lap, and it's keeping me warm in are crazy cold condo here in Chicago. (New windows are coming in 2 weeks!) The 30"x40" blanket isn't quite large enough for me to try snuggle up under, but it's big enough to cover Isaac. We don't use it in his bed quite yet, but probably will in the next couple of months now that he's older and I'm not so paranoid about putting too much in his bed. However, if you want one for yourself, you can have one, too! Shi Shu Style makes a throw that is 50"x60". More than big enough for you to snuggle up with on the couch, too!

Full review, based on 4 stars:

Functionality/Quality of materials **** - These blankets are made from the highest quality materials and handwoven for long wear. Like I said, the blanket is keeping me comfortably warm right now, but the nature of the fabric means that it will also be just the right weight for the summer months, too. No special laundry care is required!

Style **** - I love the simplicity of the designs. They are very elegant, and the colors are soft and soothing for little ones. You only get four choices, pink, blue, green and yellow, but while they are pastel, there's something a little richer about the colors which adds to the luxurious look.

Price **1/2 - The large baby blanket is $88. Yes, probably out of reach for many of us. However, the smaller snuggler size which is 16"x16" is a little more affordable at $29. You're paying for the handwoven quality and the uniqueness of the fabric. There are many, many soft blankets out there, but most are made from man-made fibers. These chemical-free Cotton/Bamboo blends are so much more gentle for your child's skin, and the absence of cutesy little baby images means that your child will be able to use this blanket well into the preschool years. Right now you can only buy them on the Shi Shu Style website, but look for more stores coming soon!

Overall Rating ***1/2 - These blankets are out of this world. If it weren't for their somewhat expensive price tag, they'd be perfect. Again, what a great gift idea the Baby Snuggler would be for the hard-to-shop for 2nd or 3rd baby in a family. All babies need a lovey, and these have the perfect mix of soft and silky. Just what a baby wants! So, yes, they are a luxury item and a splurge, but if you can afford one, you won't be disappointed.
