I've been walking around composing this post in my head for a few days now, and it's been taking me back a couple of years to when we first moved back to Chicago. Nadia was about 9 months old and we were returning to the city after two years in Ann Arbor. All of our "old" friends were still living these fabulous child-free lives, and I wasn't working which means I spent my days carting Nadia around from class to class and playgroup to playgroup. None of these activities were really for her of course, I was in desperate need of adult interaction! Lots of phone numbers and addresses of our new friends were written on teeny tiny scraps of paper that were scrounged up from the bottoms of diaper bags or coat pockets. Many times nothing could be written down because there wasn't even a crayon to be found! How nice it would have been to have these very cute and oh so functional Mama Cards from Mabel's Labels!

What is a Mama Card? Well, at Mabel's Labels, it can be anything you want it to be! You can have them printed with your name, the names of your children and a phone number. You can include your address if you want. If you don't want to share a ph
one number, you don't have to, simply have the card printed with just an email. Then, when you meet a new mom at the park, or your child makes a new friend, simply hand over your Mama Card. No struggling to find paper or a writing utensil. Plus, there's less of a chance of the card being lost than there is a gum wrapper! These are such a fantastic idea for new mommies who are looking to meet other moms and their tots. The playground is great in the summer, but you need some playgroup friends to make it through the long winter, trust me! Plus, they help give you an identity. You don't just have to be "so and so's mom" anymore!
Full review below, based on 4 stars:
Design/Functionality **** - As with all the Mabel's Labels products I've experienced, these cards are of the highest quality. They are printed on a not-too-thick card stock which makes them substantial without being bulky. You won't notice when you have a small stack of them tucked away in your diaper bag. On the back, there is a little lined section for any notes that you want to make to yourself. Depending on the style that you pick, you have from 5-7 lines of writing and total flexibility on what you want the info to be which is an awesome feature. You're not stuck just adding the information that Mabel's Labels said you should. They are truly a completely customizable product.
Style **** - These are a new product for Mabel's Labels, and there are currently 5 designs for you to choose from. Styles range from the more elegant Brocade style to the totally bright and fun Posey and Summer Day styles. I'm sure that one of the five styles will fit your personality and make you feel more friendly and not at all pretentious when you hand these over to a new friend!
Price *** - I've never priced Mama Cards before, although I do know they are getting to be a more and more popular item. $29 for 100 cards doesn't seem totally outrageous. 29 cents per card isn't bad. I'm sure you could buy business cards in bulk somewhere, but you wouldn't be getting the totally customizable and fun look that you will with Mama Cards from Mabel's Labels. These Mama Cards are way
cuter and a lot less formal than any old business card would be.
Overall Rating ***1/2 - While I know that these cards are not for everyone, they would be great for many moms. If you've never had to hope you cross paths again with a mom you connected with at a park because you couldn't find a pen to write down her name and phone number, or never posted a "lost" friend message on your blog because you lost the info for your daughter's new friend, then you probably don't know why in the world you would need a Mama Card. However, if you are the type who makes new friends at the playground, in music class, or while dropping your preschooler off a school, then these cards are a fun and easy way to make sure you are connected. If you're tired of being referred to as "Nadia's Mom," then these cards would be great for you, too. They are fun and functional and another great product from the talented "mompreneurs" at Mabel's Labels. Go check them out!

It's a mommy "calling-card". What a good idea! That may sound antiquated to some, but there is a reason it has worked over the years!
