Review: BabbaCo Babba Cover

This BabbaCo Babba Cover is everything I need, but with one glaring exception. In the winter, all I want is to transport Adam from the house to the car and to Target- WARM and shielded from the elements. The general problem is the elements. They blow a blanket off the car seat. And really, who wants to mess with bunting and coveralls? What to do?

The BabbaCo Babba Cover, is an easy-to-attach, elasticized, fleece lined, car seat cover that tents over baby and car seat. This keeps baby warm and covered during times of transport. The “tent” feature is great because it makes a spacious cocoon, not a claustrophobic hole, for baby. It has two windows that open and secure with a button; one is for baby to see out of and the other is for Mom to see in. There is an elasticized opening over the handle for one-handed carrying of the carseat.

Therein lies my problem. I have never carried a carseat by one hand. I always hook my arm under the handle and carry on my forearm. There is not enough space for my arm through this opening, not even with elastic. My husband has a hard time fitting his hand easily through the hole (though he does carry one-handed), but note that he CAN fit his hand through the opening. If this opening was larger, I would be 100% sold on this product. As it stands, I detach the cover each time I try to carry the carseat because I am threading my arm through the “back” window and through the “hand hole”.

The Babba Cover I have is lightly fleece lined. It keeps Adam warm when we are outside, and when in the car, it doubles as a blanket. This ingenious product has two deep pockets, one on each side of the cover. You could easily stash the basic necessities (wipes, a diaper, a Nuk, a phone, etc.) in these guys if you did not want to carry a whole diaper bag with you.

My formal review follows, each category of four stars.

Functionality **: If you are a one-handed carrier, then this would be a four star category. Unfortunately, not for me. All of the other bells and whistles are four stars and it is so easy to use. Love the side pockets. The Babba Cover also comes in lighter fabrics and there is a light cotton coming- might be great for summer. Adam has no complaints when inside.

Style ****: Pleasant patterns and colors. Unisex and girlie, none seem strictly “boy”. My Hub does not feel embarrassed carrying Adam in this at all!

Price **: $89 plus shipping.

Over Score **: Since I can’t get the cover to stay in place due to my carrying style, this does not work for me. If you are a one-handed carseat carrier, then you and baby should love this Babba Cover.

What an interesting design flaw. Almost every mom I know carries the car seat looped over her arm. It's really too bad though because the idea is really awesome! The cover would have been great last winter when Isaac was so small. I love walking and the whole blanket blowing off the car seat and stroller was always so frustrating. Obviously, the cover would still have been functional for keeping the cold out, but it's the lugging him back and forth that also would have kept me from using it.

Agreed. I was genuinely surprised about it. We still use it because Adam loves having all that space inside the "tent". And the weather is going to get warmer so if the cover pulls off a little, it won't matter as much.

If that handle hole was the double the size or the length of a carrier handle, then I think this would be perfect.
