Review & Giveaway: Green Toys, Inc.- Tea Set

Our fun Whining & Dining Series unfortunately overlapped Earth Day, but I still want to recognize it now. What better way to do so than by recognizing a company that makes its toys of recycled materials, all the way down to the packaging (which is then recyclable again)? Sound GREEN enough for something we parents are already buying?! Cool! So, this company is called Green Toys, Inc. and we got to try out the Tea Set.

The Tea Set, like all their toy options are made from recycled plastic milk jugs. Although I consider myself the least “Green” mom of all us KBP moms, this really spoke to me. Why? Because even Anastasia can understand this concept a little. She sees me and my hub put bottles and paper and her milk jugs, etc., into our recycling bags. When she’s asked what we are doing, we’ve simply told her “Recycling, so that the bottles can be used again”. We keep it simple since she’s two and a half; we think more explanation would be confusing. With the Green Toys, Inc. Tea Set, I was able to tie back to that explanation and show her where those milk jugs go. Simple.

Click read more below to see my full review and details on the fun giveaway!

So, she loves the Tea Set on top of all of this lesson-learning-through-practical-application. Like a duck to water, she has made us tea and coffee (with her Rosie-Hippo rainbow stackers), set the table, served us and Adam and cleaned in her kitchen. She frequently asks for sugar to put in the sugar bowl- like I would just give in like that! This 17 piece set has all the amenities: cups, saucers, tea pot, creamer, sugar bowl, spoons. She was really frustrated when we confiscated her demitasse sized spoons though, they are not for babies, and Adam could easily gag himself with those, so they are in the “when-Adam-gets-bigger-bin” (the most hated bin in the world).

The following is my formal review, as always, each of four stars.

Functionality: ****- A colorful child’s tea set that teaches a lesson in understanding how we can help Mother Earth. A toy that encourages imagination. And, seriously, when else does anyone bring you coffee (imaginary or otherwise)? Let’s not forget that these are dishwasher-safe for when un-imaginary items get served.

Style: ****- Cute. Recycled plastic (which helps negate the plastic-toys-are-bad thing).

Price: ***- Retails for $25, but, as usual, you can find it for less at Amazon! Seems reasonable for an earth-friendly toy.

Overall Score: ****- We just love this Tea Set. Anastasia uses it everyday. Adam teethes on it. Friends play with it- and there are enough pieces that a couple kids can play harmoniously together at the same time.

Congratulations to Jenndiggy, the winner of the Green Toys, Inc. Tea Set.

Are you ready to win your own Green Toys, Inc. Tea Set? First, visit the Green Toys, Inc. website, then come back to tell us which toy of theirs you like best- and then tell us how you “get Green” with your kids. My fave is the Indoor Gardening Kit, next to the Tea Set of course. Our little one likes to sneak the cans out of the recycling bin and bang them together. We teach her where cans go, we thrift shop for the family clothes, we use biodegradable trash bags, recycle shopping bags, and overall we try to be good green role models. She also loves to have her nails painted with water based, non-toxic paints. You have to set them with a hair dryer, but that's our fave part.

I love the Indoor Gardening Kit. Educational in more ways than one...teaching about recycling and growing plants from seed. Very cool and lots of fun.

I "get green" with my kids by explaining to them why I do things in a natural-living way and lots of modeling. For example, we turn off unused lights in the house, are minimal water users by not letting water run unneccesarily, not flushing every time (unless necessary!), composting, recycling everything possible (even items that are not picked-up curbside, etc.

Thanks!
