I knew that Sylvan offers one-on-one tutoring but had no idea that they also offered Learning Workbooks and Kits for you to use at home with your child. I think that's a great option for those who aren't sure that they need to commit to the time/money of tutoring and just want to help sharpen their child's skills in various areas.
The Workbooks are currently available for 3rd-5th graders, but Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Workbooks are going to be out this August.
My friend Kara kindly provided her thoughts on the Sylvan Learning Workbooks. She used the Super Workbook, which is a compilation of three workbooks in one (Spelling, Reading, and Vocabulary).
"We had our third grade daughter use Sylvan workbook exercises while she was on her break. We found the book kept her in a learning mode during her break, so when she went back to class after the 4 weeks off she was able to resume her lessons at the same level as before the break.
The lessons in the book where at the appropriate level for her to work through and progressed at a rate that allowed her to understand the exercises on her own. She enjoyed using the book it was a break from her usual homework style. The book was age appropriate and I would recommend others use these lessons for their children.
I will go buy another one for her to use when she is off track in August!"
Click on "Read More" to learn more about the Sylvan Workbooks and how you can win a set of 3rd Grade Workbooks!

Sylvan has compiled three formats to meet different needs. An individual workbook (one grade, one subject) is only $13. The Super Workbook (which Kara used) is $18 (a great value). And, the Learning Kit is $80. It includes 3 Workbooks PLUS Audio CD, CD-ROM, Flash Cards, and more.
They all sound pretty good to me! Plus, they recently received a 2009 NAPPA Honors Award - a silver medal award from the National Parenting Publications Award Parenting Resources competition. I'll definitely consider these as a learning tool once we begin school for my gals.
Would you like the chance to win a set of Sylvan's 3rd Grade Workbooks? They have kindly provided a Reading Comprehension, a Spelling, and a Vocabulary Workbook for one lucky winner. All you have to do is leave us a comment about how you think the workbook would benefit your child. All comments must be received by 11:59 PST on Monday, June 22, 2009. Winners must be 18 or older and residents of the U.S. You can read the rest of our giveaway rules here. Thanks for reading and Good Luck!

i think these workbooks would help reinforce what the kids learn in school, thereby helping them learn and retain that information
I'd love to have these for both my sons! Isaac is getting ready to enter 3rd grade, and Adam, though only 5, is able to read near a third grade level. I could use these for both of them this summer!
While my son is only a first grader, he is growing quickly. This would be quite useful a couple if years from now. We're homeschooling, and it can be expensive, so we'll take all the free materials we can find.
Anything educational is a benefit. If it's interesting, it's an added bonus. I just want my kids to love learning!
