Michelle and her girls are at it again! Here is their fun review for the bigger girls out there!
Mag-tagz are touted as being about fun, friendship, and style. My 5 year old daughter Sydney was super excited to get her hands on this necklace. She’s a girly girl and beat her sister to the punch and is our guest reviewer this time. The Mag-tagz necklace base works with a magnet and is available in two sizes, small or large. Then, you can mix and match the tagz to suit your fancy. There is quite an array of different tagz available to choose from and Sydney was given the “bee” one for her necklace. She was a bit disappointed that she didn’t have more to work with but has been wearing it for the last 3 days despite that fact!

In addition to being stylish and fun, Mag-Tagz are meant to be an interactive way for girls to “form friendships”. I’m not really sure I buy into this for my girls – but I do so see how it could be fun. It begins at www.mag-tagz.com where girls can play the “Tag, You’re It!” game. Players get started by entering the exclusive code found on the back of any tag to get a clue.
The ultimate goal is to collect four clues and figure out what the clues have in common. Players are encouraged to trade tagz and/or information with friends to learn more clues. Once they have figured out the answer, they simply submit their answer online and are automatically entered into a variety of drawings with a chance to win some pretty fabulous prizes. Now, Sydney at age 5 is way too young for this sort of interaction, and even Camryn at age 8 seems too young in my opinion. I try to limit their time on the computer and just don’t see the value in this part of it.
Functionality – ** Overall a very cool idea. These are supposedly for any girl ages 5 and over. I don’t agree with that for a couple of reasons. Sydney is 5 and very mature for her age. However, the first night she wore the necklace she was trying to see what she could stick the necklace to because of the magnet….she put it on her glasses! The disc part of the necklace is not rough, but could definitely scratch the glasses if she wasn’t careful. Also – this is not a good thing for households with younger babies. The magnet pieces are not overly large and could easily be swallowed by infants.
Cost – *** At $3.99 for a small individual “tagz” and $4.99 for a large “tagz” the price is right. The Mag-Tagz Necklace Base is $9.99 and also very reasonable. Sydney may find herself with a few more tagz at Christmas – the perfect stocking stuffer! I’m a neat freak, and would love to get my hands on the Mag-tagz Daisy Storage Frame which sells for $19.99. It is a magnetic pink and yellow daisy shaped storage frame perfect for organizing those small pieces.
Style – ***Very cute with a huge selection of tagz to choose from – one for every mood! Another cool aspect of these is that girls are encouraged to design they own tag and enter it in the Mag-tagz Design Contest. The entries are posted on the Mag-tagz blog and anyone can vote for their favorite.
Overall Rating - *** I think these are adorable, but really believe the online aspect is more for the 9-12 age range.
