Review & Giveaway: Scholastic Treasury of 25 Storybook Classics: Dinosaurs, Trucks, Monsters… and More!

I was sold on this Scholastic set from the word “Dinosaur” being included in the title. We LOVE our “How Do Dinosaurs…” books and read them all the time. I’ve started Adam on them already. So, when I realized these books were narrated and animated… I jumped to review this set.

Our readers know that we KBP moms love these Scholastic DVD sets. There are so many reasons to like them and this boxed set is no different. Dinosaurs, Truck, Monsters and More, has four discs of kid-friendly short stories. Some are animated, some our still frames. All are directed at kids of all ages (3-9), but particularly at the pre-reading to beginning readers group. The narration is done quite slowly for some stories as they have read-along subtitles for your new-reader to keep up. The focus of this set is on boys, but girls (my Anastasia included) will be interested as well.

Click read more below to see the full review and giveaway details.

As always, Scholastic gets an amazing set of voices to narrate these stories, to name a few: John Lithgow, Patrick Stewart, Kathy Bates, Chevy Chase, Danny Glover, and Christopher Lloyd- how cool for us adults, right?

For any of us taking a road trip this summer, I’d think this would be a great set of DVDs to bring along in the car; these stories clock in at a total of just about five hours of viewing time. As always, Scholastic has kids in mind, they are short stories to keep a kid’s attention, and then switch to the next. We will be bringing this set in our car on our upcoming family trip, I assure you.

My formal review is below, each category of four stars.

Functionality: ****- Perfect length stories, this time focused on those things boys (and girls, too) like- dinosaurs, monsters, body functions, monsters- you get the drift. Nice narration and animation of familiar and new stories.

Price: ****- $29.95 for 25 kid-length stories that will hold your child’s attention. By my count that is just over a dollar a story. Worth it. Even more "worth it" is $17.95 at Amazon.

Overall Score: ****- Of course. Scholastic makes these with kids and parents in mind. No parental worries over violence or other inappropriate content. Easy enjoyment for your child.

Would you like to win a copy of Scholastic Treasury of 25 Storybook Classics: Dinosaurs, Trucks, Monsters… and More!? Please pop on over to Scholastic’s site and browse through their fun DVD/Video collections. Then come back and tell us which other video or set would be a fabulous addition to your kid’s collection. All entries must be received before midnight on June 22, 2009. Please click this link to see our official rules for entering this giveaway.
