Sunday Conversation: Sunblock for Sensitive-Skinned Babies

I was beyond thrilled when I happened across this new Neutrogena baby sunscreen: Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunblock Lotion SPF 60. Willingly, I handed over my $8, because in my whole life, I have never had an adverse reaction to any Neutrogena product. Neither has Anastasia, who has always used Neutrogena sunscreen- and has used this one with no adverse reaction.

Adam has Norweigan-white skin (to call him fair-skinned would be generous), and we've been dealing with extra-dry-boarderline-eczema skin all winter. I am terrified of him getting sunburned. So, without a second thought, I slathered the Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunblock all over Adam's face. Then I put on his hat an headed out to the shade.

The next time I looked at his face, he was splotchy and his skin looked scaly, particularly on his cheeks where the most of the sunblock had been applied. Oops. It took a week for the rash to clear, too. For now I am keeping him under a hat and out of the sun, but know that can only last so long.

HELP! What kinds of sunscreen work on your sensitive-skinned kids?

Actually for L the Neutrogena did work...since the Bull Frog made her like A. How about the Aveeno sunblocks? Those don't bother her or T. Also...Avalon Organics makes a baby sunscreen that I really like...you might want to try that due to it being certified organic...

BADGER BALM sunscreen!!! I cannot say enough good things about this sunscreen! It is a natural sunscreen without any nasty chemicals in it, so it is completely safe to use, even on very young babies. It is what I bought to use on my son when he was only 8 months old and we went on vacation to the beach. He has NEVER burned (or even tanned!) when wearing this sunscreen.

I use it as well. I love it!

Also, in a pinch, it will work as a diaper rash cream. It works really well as a diaper rash cream!!

Right now their website is a bit wonky. It won't load for some reason (I am writing an email to them tonight).

If you want to do some research on sunscreens (and any other cosmetic/beauty/baby product) check out this website: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

I use it all the time to try and find the best, most natural products for our family. It's amazing to look up products that SOUND like they are all-natural (Aveeno!) but are really filled with chemicals.

I also have rash-prone little folks, but we have always had good luck with the NO-AD products. I would be willing to spend a pretty penny to keep them from getting burned or rashy, but with NO-AD, I don't have to! Hey, I sound like an AD!

I would highly recommend California Baby sunscreen. We have been using it on our daughter since she was 6 months old and it works great. She has very sensitive skin and we have never had a problem. We have used the stick and the lotion and both are great!!

THANK YOU, ALL! Keep the suggestions coming, clearly I am not the only one with this problem and you are helping lots of others besides me!
