Review: Reusable Fresh Snack Pack

Like so many others out there, I am making small changes to help my family be a little kinder to the earth. Thanks to the Considering Cloth series that I did here at KBP, Max is now wearing cloth diapers more often than not, we recycle anything and everything that we can and I do at least think twice before buying things like individually wrapped foods (baby steps, right?) One of the areas I really struggling in though, is the transportation of food. The truth is that I just love ziploc bags. I know it is an unhealthy addiction and I am trying to break it, I really am! That is why I jumped at the chance to review the Fresh Snack Pack from Go Fresh! Click on Read More for the Official Review.

The Official Review (on a Four Star Scale) :
Functionality: ***1/2 The Fresh Snack Packs are made of non-toxic, PVC-free, BPA-free material. The velcro on them seems to be attached well and holds very well. I like the two different sizes that are available: Snack Size which is 6" by 4" and the Sandwich Size which is 8" by 6". It is recommended that the Snack Packs not be put in the dishwasher, but that they be cleaned in soapy water and rinsed. I will say, they were not the easiest thing in the world to clean if you put something really messy or crummy inside. I was leery of turning the whole thing inside out (which would have made it really easy to just rinse off) because, although they do seem very durable, I was just not sure how many times it would withstand that. Drying was also a problem- only because it takes a while because they have to be hung somewhere. If I amass a collection of them, I might consider getting one of those bottle drying racks to hang them on.

Style: ***1/2 I was a little skeptical at first about whether a non-ziploc "sandwich bag" would really hold my food as well without letting it get stale. I will say that the Fresh Snack Pack has succeeded in this. They are designed so that the food goes down into a pocket and then extra material is then folded over the whole thing before getting velcroed closed. The nice thing about this extra length of plastic is that it works well as a built in placemat when the whole thing is opened. Perfect for the grody picnic tables of summer!

Price: The Snack Size are $4.50 and the Sandwich Size are $5.50. More expensive than my beloved ziplocs? Of course. Worth it? I think so. Plus, I am no mathematician, but I don't think that it would take you very long to get your money's worth if you were using these faithfully for packing a lunch every day!
Overall: ***1/2 A simple and fairly easy to use item that is a great alternative to plastic bags for many things. Admittedly, one of the downfalls actually is its simplicity- So simple and "bag-like", apparently, that my dear husband threw it away. Sad, but true!
