I'm not sure about all of you, but I'm always on the search for new foods to try on the offspring...particularly of the portable type. Our local Trader Joe's has two things that I thought I'd get the word out on.
The first is dried/roasted seaweed. These are always at Asian markets or can be found on-line as well. Personally, I hate all things from the water, particularly this stuff, but I don't want my kids to suffer because of it. They both LOVE these seaweed sheets. They are salty, crispy goodness that are abundant in nutrients and an excellent source of vitamins A, B, C, protein, and iron. They come in sheets and are easily transported and eaten without a huge mess. They get wilty quick, so if you open one and they don't finish it you may as well throw it out.
The second isn't super new but it's fantastic and I'm a huge proponent of it's packaging. It's the Trader Joe's Apple Crushers. These things are awesome, there is plain apple or apple/carrot. Healthy and the best thing is their delivery vehicle, a squeezable pouch. I've found it's best to feed them a little at first because they are kind of like juice boxes in that they gush out easily when full, but once it's down a bit I hand it over to them and they're in control. No utensils necessary, a little messy but super easy to transport.
I'm now seeing this "pouch" concept applied to babyfood which I think is awesome. We just tried the Ella's Kitchen ones from Babies R Us and a couple were very well received by my 1 yr old. She is at the stage of insisting on feeding herself, and while this is still messy it's nowhere near the damage she can do with a jar and spoon.

There are some interesting flavors offered, more fruit than veggies, but they're just getting started. Unfortunately, they cost twice as much as a jar, so I'm only using them sparingly, but I'm hoping that this packaging format really takes off and the costs go down.
As always, I'm looking for other great ideas, please share them!
(Note, there was a recall of a Plum Organics pouch, info. is here).

I'm going to look for the Sea's Gift dried Nori at our Trader Joe's. My son likes their little rice crackers wrapped in Nori. I haven't seen the ones you reviewed in our store yet, but I think they'd be a hit in our household.
Sorry Lynette, I couldn't find any actual pics of the Trader Joes seaweed, I just used that image to represent seaweed in general. Just look for or ask for roasted seaweed. Sorry if I confused you!
