Last winter I posted on play kitchens and accessories, and indicated that I had been on a search for a set of play dishes and bowls that weren't breakable.
Fortunately Green Toys gave me the opportunity to try out their Dish Set and we LOVE it.
Although Alexandra reviewed the Green Toys Tea Set last summer, I'll give another quick synopsis of Green Toys since they are so awesome.
Their toys are -
- made from recycled milk jugs
- BPA-free
- have no phthalates
- have no lead paint
- meets FDA standards for food contact
- packaged in 100% recyclable cardboard with no twist ties or plastic
- and meet a myriad of standards that I'm too lazy to look up because I know they meet all of the above standards : )

All ratings based on a 4-star scale.
Materials/Durability ****: I already covered the materials, pretty simple, but I must emphasize that these are not as weak/flimsy as their milk jug sources. These are VERY strong and dishwasher safe, which is sooo nice for something that will inevitably be used with real food. All the safety/environmental standards that they meet make already great products that much better.
Functionality ****: The set includes 4 each of plates, bowls, tea cups, spoons, forks, and knives. These are sized perfectly for young 'uns to serve up their friends and family all sorts of play concoctions. The silverware is great because none of it is sharp, (unlike the IKEA play forks we have).
Style ****: No frills here, simple dishware. The tea cups are blue, the bowls are purple, the plates are green, and the utensils are yellow. A little on the pastelish side (I doubt that's a true adjective but I'm running with it), but unisex enough to me.
Price *** 1/2: It's $25. It's maybe a little more than some other plastic sets, but the safety/environmental attributes make it worth an extra $5 to me.
Overall ****: This set is exactly what we've been looking for to make my gal's play kitchen experience complete.
Also, be sure to check out the rest of the Green Toy's offerings, their tool set and trucks look fantastic!
