I thought that today's review seemed appropriate given the fact that so many of our friends back in the Midwest are looking at inches and inches of snow again today. I was feeling a little bummed out that we are missing all those fun sledding opportunities, but then I remembered that they're also looking at sub-zero temperatures, and we got to have a day like this:
But, I digress. Today's review is for what I still believe to be a must-have product for any parent who lives in a state that experiences all four seasons, but doesn't like to be cooped up inside all winter long with a little one. I was, and still am one of those moms, although thank goodness my winters are now going to be much milder than the ones I've experienced every other year of my life. However, on a beautiful day like today, I was glad that I had a Snuggle Bub Fleece Stroller Bunting from Protect-a-Bub to keep my little guy warm on our crisp morning walk along the lake.
Some people call them stroller buntings, some call them stroller sleeping bags, some call them footmuffs, but basically they are a nice little warm and snuggly "cocoon" that attaches to your stroller and keeps your kiddo nice and toasty when you're out in the cold. The Snuggle Bub is our fourth stroller bunting, and it actually came to us late last winter. I wanted to review it then, but decided to wait until this winter when it seemed more relevant. While I've yet to find a universal stroller bunting that is absolutely perfect, I do think that the Snuggle Bub has some serious advantages to all the others that I've tried. Review is based on a 4-star scale:
This is really a genius idea as it helps keep the Snuggle Bub in place, even when you put your child in pull him out. You might not think that this matters, but the number one complaint that I have about universal stroller buntings is that they constantly need adjusting, including after I've wrangled a screaming toddler into the seat. Other features that are unique and helpful include the big buttons on the front. Inevitably, you are going to be putting your little one into the stroller with cold fingers, but with the Snuggle Bub, you won't have to worry about trying to close tiny buttons, or struggle with zippers that are stuck. Finally, the Snuggle Bub comes in two different sizes - small and large. The small is for ages 0-24 months and the large for 2-4 years. Personally, I'd just go for the large from the get-go, but if you want a custom fit, you can buy small and upgrade.
Materials and Durability **** - So far, I'm impressed with the quality. The buttons are still securely attached and intact. The sheepskin isn't shedding all over Isaac's coat. The cotton fabric is durable, too.
Style *** - In a category that is all about personal taste, I feel that the Snuggle Bub is perfect in it's simplicity. It looks warm. Maybe this seems a little practical, but my objective when I'm out for a walk is to not feel guilty about Isaac being cold. Once I had him bundled up in his Snuggle Bub today, I didn't worry once about his comfort because I knew he would be cozy and warm. I took off one star because the Snuggle Bub does only come in navy or black and while this isn't that important to me, some might long for flashier colors.
Price **1/2 - The large Snuggle Bub runs about $75-80 at most online stores. It's not the cheapest option, but also not the most expensive one that we own either! Trust me, if you like to go outside with your child in tow during the winter, you will get your money's worth and more!
Overall Rating *** - While I still prefer the custom fit of the Bugaboo Foot Muff on our Bugaboo stroller, the Snuggle Bub is my top pick when it comes to keeping Isaac warm in our Bumbleride. A stroller bunting or foot muff or sleeping bag, whatever you want to call it, is a definite necessity for any cold weather climate, even a mild one like we have here in Seattle!
